Bed Sizes
Learning the difference of bed sizes can be confusing. Even the salespersons at your department store may not know the dimensions of the different sizes of beds. However, before dumping this topic down, manufacturers make different bed sizes of many reasons and you will certainly benefit by laying down the pros and cons of a particular bed size.
Bed sizes are usually standardized in the United States but manufacturers some make a point of carving from the original dimensions for some reasons. The problem with this is that the bed or mattress might appear cheaper but you probably can't find sheets or beddings that will fit in these customized bed sizes.
Let's begin with the smallest bed in the market and its dimensions. Single or twin bed size is the smallest among the range of bed sizes. This is most likely the bed size of your child's room or guest rooms. These beds are small enough to fit in little spaces or small bedrooms. Trundle beds are great to use underneath a twin bed size to accommodate another sibling or a sleep-over guest.
A twin bed's overall standard dimension is 39" wide by 75" long. Twin beds are the least costly to maintain because their sheets are, well, the cheapest. However, some adults who are vertically endowed may be too tall for a twin bed.
The next closest comparison to make is between a full size bed and a queen size bed. A full size bed dimensions are 54" wide and 75" long while a queen size bed dimensions are 60" wide and 80" long. If you're thinking of getting a queen size bed for you and your partner, compare the dimension to a double bed.
A full size bed is excellent into smaller rooms and quite spacious for just one sleeper who is not taller than 5'5". You will find that beddings for full size beds are cheaper than a queen size. Nonetheless, the problem could arise when two adults share a double size bed since it can be too narrow for two.
A queen size bed, meanwhile, might be wider and longer than a full size bed but compared to two twin beds put together, it's still a little short. This bed size is ideal for guest rooms or smaller master bedrooms, and ideal for thinner couples or those who don't mind snuggling up every night. For couples who need extra space, though, this size can get too small every night.
Now, we get down to a king size bed. King size bed has two kinds, each one having different dimensions. The standard Eastern King or king size bed dimensions are 76"-78" wide and 80" long while the California King is 72" wide and 84" at the longest.
The size of an Eastern king is like putting two Twin beds side by side. In your guest room, if there is enough space to allow it, you can set a couple of twin beds, position them side by side to create a King bed for a couple. When replacing sheets, a flat king size sheet will fit this set-up but the fitted king size sheet might not as it is for a specific size of king bed. Hence, it's important to get the dimensions first before running off to the store.
Being the widest in the market, a king size bed is probably the most accommodating bed for two persons. When you sleep alone, this size may be too expansive for you and too cumbersome for a single's room. In terms of maintenance, king size sheets are the most costly. The disadvantage with very large beds is the effort you need to exert to move these things.
The key to beds and beddings is to mix and match these to find the look you want in your room. By making your bed as chic as it can be, you're not only establishing a comfortable sleeping environment but an inviting place to rest as well.
